In a world where fast fashion dominates, we often overlook the beauty of mending and personalising our garments. This project aims to design starter-friendly mending experiences, including kit sets and workshops, to explore the possibilities of sustainable fashion.
Inspired by the vibrant local culture of Hong Kong and my cherished childhood memories. Growing up, I was deeply captivated by the intricate costumes of Cantonese Opera (粵劇), which sparked my passion for design and continues to influence my creative journey. This collection reinterprets traditional Chinese opera costumes through a modern lens, embodying the fusion of cultures that defines Hong Kong. Merging classic elements with contemporary aesthetics, creating a unique blend that resonates with both heritage and modernity. By zooming in on intricate details and exaggerating certain elements, I aim to create pieces that honor traditional Chinese opera while appealing to contemporary fashion sensibilities. This collection celebrates my journey and pays tribute to the cultural richness of Hong Kong.
The "SEWomen" scheme was established in 2020, sponsored and supported by Swire Properties, with the core principles of "caring, empowerment, and sustainability." Created by local designer Lam Wing Sum, features vibrant prints on lightweight brushed fabric for warmth and incorporates reflective designs for enhanced nighttime visibility. Made of sustainable cotton with certified dyes and crafted by local women as empowerment, the cape is able to support sustainable living and promote caregiver-friendly communities. The products are donated to wheelchair users in need.
